ICE Lewis County Release Paths
No ICE detention center was identified in Lewis County. Immigration custody can occur at an ICE or contract facility elsewhere. When a county jail says a person was released to ICE, the county event is a transfer, not release to the community. Obtain the time, receiving agency, destination if available, and booking number.
ICE custody may later end through conditional community release, movement within the detention network, removal, or another legal event. The county roster cannot show that later outcome. A missing ICE result cannot prove release because exact matching and a limited post-release window constrain the public locator.
Search ICE Detention Releases
Use the official Online Detainee Locator System. One route uses A-number and country of birth. The other uses exact biographical information. Spelling, spacing, multiple surnames, and birth data affect matching.
- Get the A-number from a reliable case or custody record when possible.
- Search with the A-number and country of birth.
- Try the exact biographical route without guessing missing facts.
- Record the time, criteria, result, and listed facility or contact.
- If no result appears, contact the appropriate ERO office and consult the custody record.
ICE states that ODLS can include people released from ICE custody within the last 60 days. After that period, use ERO and available immigration records. A no-result response means only that the person was not located in ODLS at that time.
ICE Detainee Search Fields
The two search routes serve different identity needs. An A-number is generally stronger than a broad name match, while country of birth remains required. Do not publish private identifiers.
| Route | Information | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| A-number | A-number and country of birth | Needs the correct identifier |
| Biographical | Exact name, country and birth date | Name variants can fail |
| ERO inquiry | Known identity and custody facts | Routing depends on location |
The manifest's ICE capture failed, so no unmatched screenshot is used. The live government locator remains the source.
ICE ERO Release Contact
Enforcement and Removal Operations manages detention and release information. Use the ERO contact channel when the locator fails, more than 60 days have passed, or the holding location is unclear.

The county Sheriff can certify its own transfer entry but cannot certify what happened after ICE accepted custody. ICE controls its detention record, and an immigration court controls its orders.
ICE Release Record Proof
A strong proof packet starts with the Lewis County or actual holding jail record. It should identify transfer to ICE, event time, and receiving agency. Add the dated ODLS result, ERO response, and any immigration court order.
| Question | Best source |
|---|---|
| Did the jail transfer custody? | Holding-jail movement entry |
| Is ICE reporting detention? | ODLS and ERO |
| Did ICE custody recently end? | ODLS within its window and ICE record |
| What order controls? | Immigration court or agency order |
| Where did county custody end? | Release type, time, and destination |
A VINE notice can show that a jail reported an event, but the alert does not explain the later immigration result. Verify it with both custodians.
ICE Versus County Release
County release and ICE detention records describe separate periods. The first closes the jail episode. The second begins when ICE accepts custody. Calling both events release can falsely imply that the person reached the community.
- Detainer
- A notice that another agency seeks custody.
- Transfer
- Movement between custodians without community release.
- ERO
- ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations.
- A-number
- A federal immigration identifier used in ODLS.
For a Lewis County arrest, call the Sheriff and actual holding jail first. Use ICE only when the record points to immigration custody. The Lewis County release search supplies the broader route.
ICE, BOP, and USMS
ICE civil detention differs from a BOP prison sentence and U.S. Marshals custody. BOP covers sentenced federal prisoners. The Marshals Service handles federal pretrial prisoners but has no public historical locator comparable to BOP. ODLS is the public ICE tool.
A BOP “Released” result does not rule out ICE custody. An ODLS no-result does not rule out state, county, or BOP custody. Name the system and check date in each conclusion.
ICE Jurisdiction in Lewis County
Lewis County lies within Nez Perce Reservation geography. County, tribal, state, federal criminal, and immigration systems are not interchangeable. Identify the arresting agency, charging court, and physical custodian before selecting a database.
An ordinary county case should not be routed to ICE without a documented handoff. Jurisdiction-specific facts belong to the actual court and agency records, not an inference based on residence or geography.
Note: Preserve the exact transfer wording because it identifies which agency must answer the next release question.
Resolve ICE Identity Mismatches
Exact matching can hide a valid ICE record when a surname, spacing, date, or country entry differs. Recheck reliable source documents before a second search. An A-number from a case or agency record is safer than guessing. Keep a dated note of each route and response.
If ERO confirms an error, send correction material only through the official channel and redact unrelated private data. A county jail can correct its transfer entry but cannot change ODLS. ICE can correct its own system but cannot rewrite the county booking record or court order.
